I and my sister have been using cosmetic mods since we downloaded the pirated one here last year.
UNP and CBBE work just fine. I use UNP and she uses CBBE. Any chance your problem is due to other mods conflicting with those two?

Facial changes and race changes work just fine also. But the ride to Helgen is bloody buggy, especially with over 160 mods. I suggest you download Helgen scene overhaul and maybe alternative start. Also, the controls will fail in some cases, e.g.
When creating a character you can’t go forward in the menu and can’t even give them a name. I’ve arrived to Helgen through mountains, split horses, crawling dragons, trees and moss and sometimes things still work but not always. Is there a patch available, by the way? I don’t want to install my game all over again. Funny thing about that Unofficial patch too. It clearly says that it needs 1.5.3 but we have it working just fine.
Either my other mods are compensating or then the patch really works. I was having problems with the good lookin cbbe mods thats use SKSE. But got it to work by making sure i downloaded the latest skse64 (0.2.0.6), then NOT installing it via a mod installer, i just unzipped it and did what it said in the read me. I then turned internet off, run steam in offline mode, added my pirated skyrimSE to my steam app, launched it once via that, then quit the game, removed it from steam again & closed steam completely.
Now i can make some nice curvacious ladies without any problems.
