Bussdriver78, Just buy it. It makes old music new again. GOTO THEIR WEBSITE FIRST - try the free DEMO. Play some music inside Boom to compare. Then buy it on the App store after deleting the demo. This is one of the best designed programs I've seen in years!
My only complaint is that it has headphone and speaker settings in there. But I'm unable to have it switch between what I do for each. If I switch output from headphones to speakers (which I often do) then the settings remain the same and I have to adjust them again. It looks like there is something in there for doing this intuitively (probably?) but it is probably some bug. Other than that, it's perfectly done and Apple should buy it and integrate it. Except they'd probably ruin it.
One smart feature that also would have been nice is if the app detected that I had iTunes sound enhancement on (look in the plist) and told me to turn that off because I found having them both on did not sound good. I almost didn't buy from the demo until I realized iTunes was the problem! So check your iTunes playback preferences. This app is similar but system wide and much better than iTunes enhancement. IronChickn, Wow, night and day difference!
This is my first review in years (decades?) of buying Apple products but I’m really blown away by how much this app has improved my music listening experience. I bought a pair of Bowers & Wilkins P7 headphones a few years ago and have never felt like I was experiencing all they could do for me.
After installing the Boom 3D app it has so completely changed my listening experience I really can’t imagine listening to music without it. Every instrument and sound on the music track takes on a life of its own and sounds completely energized, compared to the tired/flat sounds playing my music before, no matter what the format. This is really worth the $13 they’re charging for it and I couldn’t be happier. IronChickn, Wow, night and day difference! While this application is seemingly the only one out there with relative competency and as many features, the 3D effect still falls flat with both speakers and headphones, a clear selling point. The amplification is weaker than in Boom 2, and there is a major issue with audio lag using bluetooth headphones as well as computer speakers (both iMac and third party externals).
While the lag is only milliseconds, it’s enough to mess up lip sync in movies, sound effects in games, and I’ll miss alerts or hear only half of them. This definitely needs to be fixed. I end up using only the Fidelity feature out of the 5 offered, but oh well, I can still achieve a good enough audio reproduction for a mass market application. The saving grace here is the per application volume leveling feature, which is very handy in making the loud noises softer and the soft noises louder. Not all applications I run have volume controls, and I can customize to my personal liking. For this alone and the Fidelity and Boom features, it’s been worth the price. However, if another comparable option turns up with no lag issues, I might switch.
